A day at the beach!

We had a fantastic day at Redcar Beach recently. The weather wasn’t up to much and the humans were dressed for winter – but we still had a ball.

I’m enjoying watching Archie do all the digging!

So much running and digging to be done – we just didn’t stop all day! In fact it’s probably a good job it wasn’t very warm, or we would have been flagging in the heat very quickly.

Where did this sand come from?

Why does the sand seem to get everywhere?

Sandy nose, sandy eyes, sandy fur…..

After an awful lot of digging – there was time for a few games of ball, before a very sleepy journey home!

A perfect day ❤️

Before and After….

Haircuts were greatly needed! The boys were beginning to resemble sheep! Even the local sheep looked at them questioningly, wondering how they’d escaped from the field!

Enough was enough, the appointment was made with the lovely dog groomer Kath and hey ho off they went to be shorn.

This belonged to Archie and Dexter

This was the amount of fur taken off! A few woolley jumpers worth! It’s just a shame the weather has become rather confused…..they could do with some of it back at the moment, it’s so cold out!

The Sun Is Here!

I can’t believe we have finally had FOUR lovely days in a row! Wow!

We’ve managed some lovely sunny walks and the boys have managed to stay clean, after their recent hair cuts!

Can we have our treat now?
Look how perfectly we are staying…..there must be a treat involved!

Look at me sitting like a good boy!

Dexter is sitting very proudly after rolling in deceased wildlife – I spoke too soon about them staying clean!

Eau de dead bird….yes please!
Just look at the expression on Dexter’s face…….he’s enjoying every minute!

And along came Archie!

Dexter was our first furbaby. It was love at first sight and it made us wonder why it had taken so long to add a dog to our family. We were smitten, so in love and totally devoted to this four legged, stinky and totally mischievous little pooch. Therefore it made so much sense after two years to add another adorable dog to our family!

We didn’t set off to try and find a matching one to Dexter, but when Archie cheekily trotted out of his pen towards us – the decision was made there and then….he was the one!

Dexter with his mini- me Archie
Archie adored Dexter from the start and Dexter adopted his role of big brother immediately. The bond between them was amazing – which made everything so much easier for us!

Me and my shadow!
We often get asked if the boys are related. They are actually not related directly, but somewhere down the line they have the same grandparent!

They are both orange roan and have similar markings, however, Dexter has very soft silky fur, whereas Archie’s is courser and curlier!

Happy Birthday Archie – 6 years ago you looked like this!
Archie was 6 this week, which means we’ve had the pleasure of him in our family for almost that length of time.

Love them both dearly  – they have enhanced our lives for the better and I can only hope we’ve done the same for them ❤️❤️❤️

The Boys Day Out!

We had a wonderful trip to the beach last week.

The weather wasn’t great – there was a bracing wind, the awful drizzle which does nothing for your hair and the temperature was freezing, but that wasn’t going to stop us!

We do love to be beside the seaside!
We headed for Tynemouth, somewhere different and somewhere I’d not been in many many years. We loved it!

Catch me if you can!
We played ball, chase, ball and chase, paddled in rock pools, then went back to playing ball again, with a bit of digging every now and then! It was exhausting just watching them!

Archie and Dexter were in their element. It made me wish we lived nearer the coast, so we could take them more often…

Flying dog!

We all had a fab day out and loved every minute. The boys slept like logs all the way home in the car and were very tired most of the following day too – that good old sea air does the trick every time!

Loving the beach life!

We love Ripon because…..

Over the last couple of weeks, a number of retailers and other establishments have been trying to promote our beautiful little city, by asking people what they love about Ripon!

Even Archie and Dexter have got involved!

Archie and Dexter love Ripon
We have had some lovely replies:

“Because there is a nice little pet shop”

“Because everyone is so friendly”

“Because there are some lovely walks” (the boys definitely agreed with this one!

“Because there are some lovely little shops and a beautiful cathedral”

Recently I bought a Jawbone Up. For anyone who doesn’t know what these are, I shall give a very short synopsis! A Jawbone Up is quite simply a fitness gadget you wear on your wrist. It somehow tracks the number of steps walked throughout the day and records how well you slept during the night. I never imagined how obsessed I would become with this piece of black plastic round my wrist!

Now, I am determined to walk at least 10,000 steps a day! (Apparently this is a good average number). This is also great for the dogs, as they are dragged out for longer walks, whilst helping me to achieve my target. Obviously they are oblivious to my sudden keenness in striding out in all weathers…but I’m sure (I know) they love it!

Run dog run….
I look at them running around the field (well Archie anyway!) and wish I had their energy – but at least I’m trying!

Lets play chase….
Dexter is such a sweetheart, plodding along in the field. If he was a human he would be like me (preferring to walk rather than run) or vice versa – if I was a dog I would definitely be more like him than Archie, (who just loves to run – all the time if he could get the chance!) I’d be the plodder!

Oops, ear malfunction….

Archie runs so fast at times, he seems to have ear malfunctions!! Bless.
I say long may it last! I ended up walking round and round the living room yesterday as I only needed a few extra steps to make it to 10,000……is that ridiculous?

Nap Time!

It’s is awfully hard work working in a pet shop….the quality control inspections which are conducted on a daily basis, the product testing (which is often carried out without being asked!) and all the meeting and greeting of customers, makes for very tired dogs in the afternoons. Even more so after a long river walk at lunchtime!

So this afternoon, there hasn’t been a peep out of either!

Well except when the camera clicked, and some very tired eyes opened!
